Page address and redirects

A page’s address comes from its title. Here is how to change it, how addresses work in the second language and how to redirect the old address so existing links keep working.

What you will have

The “Logos 2024” page has the new address /logos and the old address /logos-2024 redirects to it.

Steps

  1. Open the Change URL dialog

On the page, open the Settings menu (cog icon) and choose Change URL. Rename opens the same dialog.

  2. Edit the URL appendix

In URL appendix, change logos-2024 to logos. Use lowercase letters without accents, digits and hyphens. Create from title rebuilds the appendix from the page title.

  3. Confirm the change

Click Change. From now on the page lives only at the new address – the old one returns a 404 error.

  4. Redirect the old address

In the left menu, open Redirects and click Add. Enter logos-2024 as Path, logos as Redirect to, and set Status to 301. Save.

How to tell it worked

Type the old address yourbrand.visualbook.pro/logos-2024 into the browser. The page at /logos opens.

What an address looks like

  • Top-level page: yourbrand.visualbook.pro/logos
  • Page in a group: yourbrand.visualbook.pro/print-materials/business-cards
  • Second language: yourbrand.visualbook.pro/cs/loga
  • Subbrand in Multibrand mode: yourbrand.visualbook.pro/novak-cafe/logos

The start of the address (subdomain or custom domain) is covered in Manual address and subdomain.

Addresses in the second language

Each language has its own URL appendix. Switch the panel to the second language (the language switch in the page header) and change the URL as above. When you translate a page automatically, Visualbook builds the second-language address from the translated title and shows “The page is now available at /…”.

Pages with the same address in both languages are listed in the Tips to improve your Visualbook box on the Overview as “… has an untranslated URL slug”. See Automatic translation.

What goes in the redirect fields

What if…

  • …you renamed the page? The address stays the same. To match it to the new title, use Create from title.
  • …Redirects is not in the menu? Redirects are managed by the Admin role. The Multibrand editor has no access.
  • …the manual’s default language changes? The addresses of all pages at the main address change. See Add or change a language.
