Automatic translation
You don’t have to write the second language from scratch. Visualbook translates a page’s texts with DeepL at the click of a button and shows you what is still untranslated.
What you will have
The “Tone of voice” page translated into Czech, including its title and the address /cs/ton-komunikace.
Steps
Find what still needs translating
Open Overview. In the Tips to improve your Visualbook column on the right, click the link with the number of untranslated items, such as “12 pages or sections left to translate.” The Pages or sections with untranslated content list opens – places where the text is the same in both languages.
Switch the page to the second language
Open a page from the list and use the language switch in the panel header to move to the second language, for example from EN to CS.
Click Translate
In the Content Translator box, click Translate to CS and confirm. The texts, page title and card description are translated.
Review and edit the translation
Treat machine translation as a draft. Check product names, the tagline and technical terms, and fix what doesn’t fit.
Save the translation
Click Save. The translation takes effect only after saving. The page also gets an address from the translated title and the panel shows “The page is now available at /…”.
Translate the sections too
Each section has its own Content Translator box. Open the page’s sections in the second language and translate them with the same button.
How to tell it worked
The page disappears from the untranslated list and the manual shows the translated content at /cs/….
The DeepL key: built-in or your own
Visualbook has its own internal DeepL key. To use your own, paste it into Settings → API → Automatic Translation with DeepL – it takes priority over the internal key. Without a working key, the Translate button doesn’t appear in the panel.
Common design terms follow a glossary
Short texts that exactly match a common design term are translated by a built-in glossary rather than DeepL. A heading “Typefaces” therefore always becomes “Písma” in Czech, “Clear space” becomes “Ochranná zóna” and “Tone of voice” becomes “Tón komunikace”. Section names are translated the same way.
Import from the default language
Next to the translate button is Import data from EN. It overwrites the fields of the current language with the default-language content – useful when you want to start again from the original. This change, too, takes effect only after saving.
Translate the whole manual with an AI agent
Translating the whole manual? A connected AI agent helps you get through untranslated pages and sections faster: it finds them, shows a translation preview and saves it after you confirm. The agent can’t change the language settings. See What the agent can do and Connecting Claude, ChatGPT and others.
What if…
- …there is no Translate button? The manual has only one language, or no DeepL key is available. Check Settings → API.
- …a text is too long to translate? One field can hold at most 10,000 characters. Split long text into several sections.
- …a file wasn’t translated? Files and passwords are not translated; they are shared. For a different file in the second language, use Unlinked – see Manual languages.
- …a page has the same address in both languages? The Tips to improve your Visualbook box shows “… has an untranslated URL slug”. Change the address as described in Page address and redirects.
