Files for download

How to offer logos, templates, print files and other files for download – in a list, on a button next to an image or in a separate download center – and how to protect them if needed.

What you will have

The page shows a list of files with a description, file name, size and a download button.

Steps

  1. Add a Files for download section

In the Sections on this page list, click Add new section and choose Files for download in the Audio, video and media group. Name the section, for example “Presentation templates”.

  2. Add the first file

Add a row to Downloadable file list. Fill in File description, for example “PowerPoint template 16:9”, and in File to download, upload a file or pick one you have already uploaded. Both fields are required.

  3. Decide whether to protect the file

If only certain people should download the file, fill in Protect file with a password (at least 12 characters) or Allow download for email domains, for example firma.cz. If you leave both empty, anyone who can see the page can download the file.

  4. Add more files, save and publish

Add further rows the same way and drag them to reorder. Click Save and switch the section to Active.

How to tell it worked

On the site, each file shows its description, file name with size and a download button. For a protected file, clicking opens a dialog for the password or email verification.

Password, email, or both

  • Password – visitors enter it and the file downloads. Use a long phrase; Visualbook requires at least 12 characters.
  • Email domains – visitors enter a company email address, for example jana@firma.cz, and receive a verification code there.
  • Both – visitors choose how to verify.

In Help text in the password dialog for this file, say where to get the password, for example “Ask marketing@firma.cz for the password”. If you leave it empty, a default text with a contact is shown.

A file on a button next to an image, video or table

A single file does not need its own section. Image (multifunctional), Image gallery, Table, Video & Animation (multifunctional), Embedded content and Expandable content all have buttons below the content.

Set the button type to Download file and pick the file – for example, offer the print PDF next to a poster preview. The button supports the same password and email protection.

Download center

To gather files in one place, create a Download center page. It offers Files for download and Link cards, so you can combine file lists with links to the pages that explain the files. A Page button in other sections can then lead straight here. See Page types.

Downloading logos, fonts and icons

Logo formats are downloaded from the logo card, fonts from the Font section (the selected files are zipped) and icons from the Icons section, where visitors choose the format and size. You do not need a Files for download section for these – see Logo formats and Fonts.

A different file for each language

By default, a file is the same in both languages of the manual (Linked). If you need, for example, a template with English text, switch the field to Unlinked and upload a separate file in each language.

Large files

Every file counts towards the manual’s storage. Files and storage explains how to handle large files and where to check the remaining space.
