Visualbook was born in a design studio

It was created by graphic designer Jiří Chlebus, who has been designing logos and visual identities since 2003. What started as a tool for his own clients is now a platform with over 200 brand manuals built on it.

Jiří Chlebus, creator of Visualbook

Working in graphic design since 2003 and freelance since 2008, he designs logos and visual identities for companies — clients include Braiins, Corinth and Benefit Plus.

He designed Visualbook and keeps developing it. Every feature comes from what he needs himself when handing a brand over to a client. He writes about logos, visual identity and brand manuals in Visualbook Academy (in Czech) and speaks at industry events such as the Brno Bold conference.

How Visualbook started

From PDF brand manuals to a platform you manage yourself or with your AI agent.

Every release in the changelog

  1. 2003–2013 · Logos and PDF manuals

Jiří designs logos and visual identities and hands over brand rules as a PDF. A manual like that goes out of date the day it is delivered, and people spend far too long looking for the right logo or colour.

  2. 2013–2019 · Manuals lost with a third-party service

Jiří leaves PDF behind for online brand manuals hosted by a third-party service and builds his clients’ manuals there for six years. In 2019 the service shut down — and 15 of his clients’ manuals disappeared with it. That experience is what pushed him to build a platform of his own.

  3. 2019 · The first Visualbook

The brief is clear: the platform must be independent, backed up and able to export a static copy, so clients always have their most important data — even if Visualbook ceased to exist. At first Jiří builds every Visualbook to order — over time it is used by Notino, Svoboda & Williams, Portu, the City of Olomouc and HOPI Holding, among others.

  4. January 2024 · Visualbook 4

A new admin built on the open-source Kirby CMS, passwordless sign-in and new page types. For the first time anyone can build a brand manual on their own and try it for free first. Trezor was the first to launch on the new version.

  5. June 2025 · Visualbook 5

The admin in English and in dark mode, shared fields that make two-language manuals easier, password protection for the whole manual and unlimited content pages.

  6. July 2026 · Visualbook 6

The AI connector (MCP): your AI agent helps you manage the manual even faster. Plus editing right on the website and an admin in six languages.

  7. January 2026 · Visualbook s.r.o.

Visualbook s.r.o. is founded and takes over running the service. New versions ship regularly and each one is described in the public changelog.

What Visualbook stands on

Visualbook exists because an online service shut down and took 15 manuals with it. Your manual must never disappear with whoever hosts it.

Pay once

A one-time price for setting up the manual, no monthly fees for running it. All prices are public on the pricing page.

The manual stays yours

With the static export you can download the manual at any time as a ready-made website for your own hosting or as an offline archive. And if Visualbook ever shut down, you would get the whole project in a single folder, admin included.

Servers in the EU

Manuals run on servers of the Czech provider Český hosting, located in the Czech Republic. Backups are handled by the hosting provider.

Open foundation

The admin runs on Kirby, a proven open-source content management system. Content is stored in files, not in a closed database.

Built in the open

Every release has a changelog entry and key features have a guide in the documentation. You know what changed and why.
